Vagh Baras cow and calf rangoli

For Vagh Baras, when families honour cows and calves: a cow and her calf with marigold garlands, inside a round frame of flowers and leaves.

Colours you need

• white
• brown
• green
• orange
• pink
• yellow

Steps

1. Draw a big circle, then the cow on the left and the calf on the right, nose to nose.
2. Draw a ring of flowers and leaves around them.
3. Trace every line with white powder.
4. Fill the cow and calf white with brown patches, and the grass green.
5. Fill the garlands and flowers orange, pink and yellow.

With little ones: an adult draws the outline, children fill the big shapes with their fingers. Light the diyas only at the end and keep them out of reach.
