Colours you need

  • red
  • yellow
  • green
  • orange
  • blue
  • white

Steps

  1. Draw a circle for the centre with a diya inside, then two rings of petals around it.
  2. Write "Happy New Year" in big chalk letters in an arc underneath.
  3. Trace every line and the letters with white powder.
  4. Fill the centre blue, the diya red and yellow, and the petals red, yellow, orange and green.
  5. Add a few dots and leaves at the ends of the words.

With little ones: an adult draws the outline, children fill the big shapes with their fingers. Light the diyas only at the end and keep them out of reach.
