Colour illustration of the design, made to look like real rangoli powder.

A Gujarati New Year rangoli: a rising sun, a row of pink flowers and "Saal Mubarak" written in white powder.

Colours you need

  • yellow
  • orange
  • pink
  • green
  • red
  • white

Steps

  1. Draw a half sun with rays at the top.
  2. Draw a row of three big flowers with leaves under it.
  3. Write "Saal Mubarak" in big chalk letters at the bottom, then trace them in white powder.
  4. Fill the sun yellow and orange, and the flowers pink with yellow centres.
  5. Fill the leaves green and add a red and green border at the bottom.

With little ones: an adult draws the outline, children fill the big shapes with their fingers. Light the diyas only at the end and keep them out of reach.
