Kali Chaudas rangoli

For Kali Chaudas, the night lamps are lit to keep the dark away: a deep blue and purple star with a big diya in the middle, ringed by yellow lamp shapes.

Colours you need

• deep blue
• purple
• yellow
• orange
• white

Steps

1. Draw an eight-point star with a diya shape in its centre.
2. Draw a ring of small diya shapes around the star.
3. Trace every line with white powder.
4. Fill the star blue and purple, one point after the other.
5. Fill the diya and the lamp shapes orange and yellow.

With little ones: an adult draws the outline, children fill the big shapes with their fingers. Light the diyas only at the end and keep them out of reach.
